10 things I miss: The beach

I grew up in Seaburn and Whitburn on the North East coast. We lived about 50 yards from the beach but now I live in Milton Keynes which is about as far away from the coast as you can get.
Here are 10 things I miss about the beach.
- The option to go to the beach for a walk, for something to do, for anything
- Sandcastles, moats and the race against time to get them complete before the tide destroys them
- Chasing waves
- Plodging
- Minchella’s ice cream, no matter what the weather
- Wrapped up warm against the cold whilst watching the waves crash onto the rocks
- Going to the beach on Christmas day
- The beauty of a winter storm
- Eating chips whilst walking along the beach
- Writing names and messages in the sand and watching the tide wash them away
Something I don’t miss: Sand getting everywhere!

I love this, I grew up by the sea, by then we moved and was landlocked. Me and MadDad just had to come back to the sea. It is my internal compass

I go to the beach as often as I can as my Nan lives at the seaside and so it is part of me (but not as much as part of you if you grew up by the sea!) and I miss those things too. Here in MK we have lots of lakes to walk round but it isn’t the same is it!

I’ve always had a yearning to live near the sea. All of these beautiful things make me want to move tomorrow.
I have to ask though as someone that’s lived in the Midlands all her life… what is plodging?!

I live by the beach and totally agree with how lovely it is! I’m sad for your loss. Enjoy it when you get the chance, the trips will be all the sweeter.
